Website evaultion

I think that Wikipedia is actually I badly designed site it tends to give too many links and I feel you are always being sent away from the subject your trying to read about. However you can also say that it’s a good site due to its endless web of information. The layout of Wikipedia is extremely cluttered and can also confuse people in my opinion it just places the imformation on the page and lets you plow through it however i feel that the coloured boxes they are trying to use to draw the eye towards pieces of imformation and therefore put breaks in the endless text to allow easier reading actually creates a distraction i feel i was more drawn towards the colours behind the text actually then paired with the endless links within the text if you ever actually manage to read the text you want you end up on a completely different subject and have no idea how to get back to what your on the site for. This makes finding things on wikipedia difficult at first, then however you learn to completely stop clicking things on the site and just read then leave.

Google is an example of a very well design website combining simplicity with efficiency. Everyone finds google simple and effective for all needs on the internet. google's logo has become famous to everyone, if you have been on the internet you have probaly used google. This seems to add to the trust factor of google the design gives a sense of taking you by the hand and leading straight towards the information you are searching for. however some people when spelling words wrong can get frustrated because on the corrections, due to the fact that sometimes they are not related towards the searched thing.

Evaluation of Capture

Evaluation of Capture
For my capture project I was given the task of creating a website of my chosen topic and therefore I picked something along the lines of my style such as Gothic or alternative styles. This was a type of project I have never done before and so when it came to making my website I felt challenged.

I have researched many things in this project from capturing graffiti to David Carson and Neville Brody all things I have researched have been inspiring I managed to take things from each to make my style of art a little more unique. In this project I had to find other ways of capturing things in my work because most of what I was doing could be gathered using simple internet skills however I drew vectors in illustrator and even spending hours looking through fonts that I might use in my work and other forms that I worked to incorporate into my work.

In completing my project I wrote up a time plan in excel and tried to keep to it so that I would at least have my website result at the end however upon finding the programs to create website completely alien due to lack of experience working with them before I decided to just make templates of my site instead of making it go live, this doesn’t affect my designing and if anything helped to make sure that I create a website that was ready to go live when I wanted it to.

I feel that I had many successes in this project, on a personal level I found a way of working that kept me keen and willing other than getting half way through an idea and finding a problem to then give up if I have accomplished nothing else in the project then that is enough. However I had successes in areas of art, I was able to look at other people’s work and find aspects of their art or even the way they worked that inspired me and helped me progress on my path to creating my own unique style of art. My main success though was my phoenix that I used in my logo, when I designed the phoenix it was on a practise experiment in illustrator that was never intended to be in a piece of work however while drawing I felt immersed into the design using the touché screen to flow feeling into the design and from something that was just meant to be practising with brushes on the program one of my favourite pieces of work was created.

In future projects I would like to find a way to re-design the phoenix into a more complex image even a character. I feel that it could be my signature to work and that I can adapt it subtly or even bluntly into work that just feels like me. Such as when people look at certain work and know it’s a certain artist I want people to see the phoenix and know that it’s my work.

My research in this project really had effects on the way I design my website pages lots of the aspects in the style of my work, consists of tribal patterns and using blacks greys  and subtle hints of colours such as reds and yellows. It’s very much the same with certain flare from each artist in the style, Hence me finding my phoenix to be my flare. Influencing my work was the Designers of Spiral clothing however names of these people I have yet to find but their clothing designs amazing me. so when making my work I had to stay with the colours but put my own take on it I didn’t want a standard alternative clothing site, I wanted my own clothing site.

I think if I did this project again I would make my website a working site and just simply re-design the tribal and layout of the site because looking back once I finished I started to find more and more things that I didn’t like but it was too late to change them. However I feel that finding the faults in my own work will help me in the future to look for them before they become unchangeable faults.

Evaluation of the overall project would be that in my project I have learnt a lot not just from my teachers and their helping but from my class the help and support we all give it each makes those problems a little easier to deal with. I have learnt much as an artist and as a person from this project and I will take these lessons with me through every career path if in the future I am lead away from my art.

Site map

I created a site plan so that if my site went live it would be simple for me to create hyperlinks because i alrdy know where they should go and how it is hyperlinked.

The home page is the brand Logo and a page with have all the pages titles on the bottom tab and as you click to each page the tabs will in corporate the home page. The page would also include deals and more info about my site if it went live.

Time plan

This is the time plan that i designed in a lesson after chirstmas holidays i followed this time plan quite loosey because in some tasks i needed a little more than i allocated. however having this plan really helped me structure why work and keep me alot more focused than my last topic.

Final Website pages

I have finished the templates of the website i plan to create and am quite happy with the way they turned out of course i would work into my designs and refine all of the current work if i am going to get my website up to a professional standard. That would make my website a  success.

How Long Can You Hold It?

My time was somewhere around:
45 minutes and 17 seconds!

Planning how to Capture for Website

To create my website I will be using many different forms of capture to give the best effects to my work. As I have to use a range of methods to create a diverse and graphically superior website than others in the market, I have had think carefully about which methods I used because just using any methods to bulk out my site could make it look unprofessional or very messy in presentation.
Fonts
I have been researching which font really works for my site and logo and have tried many different fonts such as
Testing Fonts

Tablet Drawings
I have used a graphics tablet to draw and re work my logo and make an image to brand myself with therefore making my website more professional. Tablet drawing really works to create my logo because it gave it textures that I wouldn’t have expected to be able to.
Vector Drawings
I have been using Vector images because while using the Graphic Tablet I was drawing on illustrator which is a vector drawing program. I chose to draw using vector because it created my work with a different texture to Photoshop and other programs I tried.
Scanning
I play to find a texture that I really like and scan it in so that I can set it into Photoshop if I have to and changes its colour. Then create a very nice feeling texture to the back ground of my website.
Internet
I will gathering Stock to show on my Website from other Websites that sell my style of clothing have a range of websites already researched help me with this so I can focus on the other forms first.

Creating texures in photoshop

Textures that i made in photoshop using simple filters and a cloud.

Putting a simple animation on a logo

i was tyring to put a animation into my logo i simply set up a animation from my logo to switch between to states. this was by using frame by frame animation in photoshop this lesson was more a demo of doin frame by frame animation in photoshop however if i wanted to make this animation better i could very easily put the elements into Flash and work at animation in that program because its made more towards animating things anyway.
my pheonix would go from this state and then as the mouse hovers over it i would like it to change into.

Neville Brody

Brody is a very famous typographer, design and brand strategist his work can be very simple in design. He is very flexible in his use of colour as in some of his work he uses just black and white and in other it is full of colour showing he is confident in using many mediums and ways of working to create stunning design work. His work draws your eye in to make you wonder why he did things in each design the way he did this is one thing that I envy as a designer my self.  I like all the style’s that brody has show on his website such as the designs using only pictures and even his typography ones usually typography doesn’t impress me that much because I feel that as long as you know the language your writing in you can create good typography. Typography is just knowing how to use text in ways to portray more than just the word its self and I feel that brody’s work does this aspect of typography a great justice and his work will inspire many people of the future to work with typography if not as there main source but as a experimental exercise.
just two examples of brody's work

Layout ideas

after i researched websites thats inspire me and that i wanted to take elements from to create of work my own but to a similar style. i have a few ideas but the one i would really like to try out would be to have my logo almost as a emblem in the center of my website home page with all the hyperlinks to diferent pages in a tribal patterned circle around the logo to create a more orignal layout to the type of website that i am making mine. i feel this would be a good idea because its different and not generic to the way websites are being designed lately. i feel that my website will have to use mostly Black Reds and greys due to the style of inventory to the site. although this is a limited choie of colours i know i can make many different variations of borders.

Website Layout research and begining to plan

I have been working towards planning a layout on my website however instead of trying to just create one I decided I would research and look at websites based around my style of site to get an informed view on the market and current fashion in the websites around my style.
I have that the websites that sell items of my style and are in my style are;
http://www.spiraldirect.com/  because of its influence from tribal designs and the range of makes it sells that are reflected perfectly into the design of the website. Although it has a very basic layout it deliverers in style and originality due to design. I would strive to create a website as well made as this website.
http://www.grindstore.com/ This site is different because of how easily you can navigate and it makes me think of how I need simplicity in navigation but complexity in design to keep the eye’s engaged but also knowing where they are while on the website.
http://www.bluebanana.com/ This site is a very well known site and packs the site full of information and things to buy so its stock of items is very impressive however that on the home page it is very over packed and so I would be happy to have the stock that blue banana have acquired.
After looking at these sites I have a few ideas flying around in my head. I feel that my site has to be original and so I might take aspects that each site use such as drawing on tribal patterns to enhance my designs such as borders. I will try and take the simplicity of travel on the grind store website and merge it with blue bananas mass of stock to create a user friendly website full of everything needed.

Website basics

Fps is the rate at which frames are shown in your animation. 12fps would mean that for 3 secs of play we would need 36 frames.
Higher the frame rate the faster your animation lower slower
we set up a very basic website design of four pages with button leading to and from each page this helped to give us a sense on how to actually create a working website and how to maybe link and structure our website the way we want too.

this was a usefull lesson because it means that i have refreshed how to make working buttons in flash and now can get on to designing my actually website.

Flash Movie experiments

We have been experimenting with Flash and making videos or sort animations. we learnt how to go into frame on and postion a seaguls wings so that we could turn it into a video of the seagul flying.
we then had it tweening across the screen in a SWF video
we then flipped it and brought it back across the screen
